Neurofibroma

Neurofibroma is a benign tumor of peripheral nerves, mostly localized in the lateral parts of the base of the skull: subtemporal, pterygopalatine fossae, soft tissues of the neck. Intracranial spread occurs with an increase in the size of the tumor due to the destruction of the base of the skull. At the time of detection, neurofibromas usually reach large sizes and grow slowly. Destruction of the base of the skull and intracranial spread occur in the area of the medial parts of the floor of the middle cranial fossa. Spread into the projection of the cavernous sinus. In case of incomplete removal, recurrences of the tumor may occur after several years. Therefore, radical tumor removal (lateral craniofacial resection) is important.
